Founded in 2017 by community leader Shakea Miller, Fight for Our Children Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children, families, and underserved communities through food assistance, educational support, youth development, and community outreach.
Founded in 2017 by community leader Shakea Miller, Fight for Our Children Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children, families, and underserved communities through food assistance, educational support, youth development, and community outreach.
From 2017 to 2022, the organization operated a food pantry and clothing closet in Opelika, Alabama, providing essential resources to families experiencing financial hardship. Through these efforts, hundreds of individuals received access to food, clothing, household necessities, and supportive services.
Today, Fight for Our Children Inc. continues its mission by addressing food insecurity and supporting families throughout the River Valley area. The organization hosts an annual Summer Feeding Program for Low-Income Children, ensuring children have access to nutritious meals when school meal programs are unavailable. In addition, the organization provides educational enrichment opportunities through annual summer camps focused on leadership development, life skills, academic enrichment, and positive youth engagement.
Fight for Our Children Inc. also conducts back-to-school drives and community giveaways, providing school supplies, backpacks, clothing, shoes, and other essential items to children in need. We provide gift cards for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. The organization assists families with baby supplies, including diapers, wipes, formula, and other necessities for infants and young children.
To support educational advancement, Fight for Our Children Inc. awards three scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors and college students pursuing higher education. Through these programs and services, the organization works to remove barriers, create opportunities, and empower children and families to achieve long-term success.
Fight for Our Children Inc. remains committed to building stronger families, healthier communities, and brighter futures by providing resources, support, and hope to those who need it most.

About the Founder - SHAKEA MILLER
Shakea Miller is a nonprofit leader, educator, entrepreneur, and community advocate dedicated to creating opportunities for children, families, and underserved populations. As the founder of Fight for Our Children Inc., she has spent years working to address food insecurity, educational barriers, and economic challenges facing families throughout Alabama and the River Valley region.
In 2017, Shakea founded Fight for Our Children Inc. with a mission to provide support, resources, and hope to those in need. Under her leadership, the organization operated a food pantry and clothing closet in Opelika, Alabama, from 2017 to 2022 and continues to serve communities through food assistance programs, back-to-school drives, scholarship opportunities, summer camps, and family support initiatives.
Beyond her nonprofit work, Shakea is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of 1 on 1 Technical & Theological College, a degree-granting institution dedicated to workforce development and educational advancement. She is recognized as the first African American woman in Alabama to establish a degree-granting institution of its kind. Her commitment to education is reflected in her own academic journey, earning an Associate Degree in 2024 and a Bachelor’s Degree in 2025.
Shakea serves as the 2nd Vice President of the Phenix City–Russell County NAACP #5050 Unit, Secretary of the Junior League of Columbus, and Vice President of the Urban League of the River Valley Young Professionals. Her dedication to service and leadership has earned her numerous honors, including multiple Presidential Lifetime Achievement Awards and honorary doctorate degrees.
Through her leadership, advocacy, and passion for helping others, Shakea Miller continues to make a lasting impact by empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building brighter futures for communities across the region.
